Ivi spends her life making herself small. She keeps her head down and tries not to think about her imminent exams. These exams determine if she will be allowed to remain with her society, known as the Sanctuary, or exiled to the post-apocalyptic hellscape that was once planet earth—now a breeding ground for rat-wolves and poison poppies. Only those with perfect bodies and minds may stay.

Unfortunately, Ivi’s mind is anything but perfect. She has pure obsessional OCD, so into the hellscape she goes. At least now she has something to think about other than all the things she could or, worse, wants to do wrong.

But just as Ivi begins to settle in with her fellow misfits around the campfire—roast rat-wolf actually doesn’t taste that bad—they learn that the Sanctuary has created a devastating bioweapon to wipe out the wild once and for all.

Ivi and her friends must re-enter the Sanctuary and steal the weapon before it’s used, pitting their wits against the powers-that-be who deemed them expendable.
